Special resins

One kind of special resins originated from petrochemical products, Acetyl cellullose was a popular material in the 1950s for making various fancy buttons by readily taking interesting colours and textures. It accurately reflected hand-made tastes. However, acetylene buttons showed low heat resistance and were difficult to clean.

The TOMA Collection especially features plastic buttons from the early 1900s to the 1960s. This was the golden age of plastic buttons: its great variety of new materials and their application to the constantly evolving design sense provide a fascinating kaleidoscopic view of that period.
